A Sailor's Grave - set a fire to your heart-Ahoi, viele Seemänner erwartet ein früher Tod. Die Seefahrt war immer gefährlich. Skorbut, Piratenüberfälle oder Schiffbruch waren ständige Begleiter. Tripper auch nicht selten. Und heute? Skorbut gibt es kaum noch. Doch das feuchte Grab reißt noch viele mit in den Tod. A SAILOR'S GRAVE sind genauso mitreißend. Wenn auch weniger tödlich. Die Musik der Band lässt sich am besten als "Fucking Shit" beschreiben, wie es Psychobilly Legende P. Paul Fenech beim Birmingham Psychobilly Bash über A SAILOR'S GRAVE getan hat. Die vier Briten spielen harten Punk mit vielen Singalongs, sanften Melodiebögen und schnell geschlagenem Kontrabass. Elemente aus Punkrock, Psychobilly oder Rockabilly kommen auch nicht zu kurz. A SAILOR'S GRAVE klingen wie eine wirklich besoffene Fusion von HOT WATER MUSIC und SOCIAL DISTORTION. Ohne die Instrumente zu beherrschen. Aber sie sehen verdammt sexy dabei aus. Das muss man ihnen lassen. A SAILOR'S GRAVE bestehen zum großen Teil aus ehemaligen Mitgliedern der legendären britischen Punkabilly Combo HYPERJAX. Banderfahrungen haben sie also. Den frühen Seefahrertod hat die Band 2007 erstmals erlitten. Seit dieser Zeit proben sie gelegentlich und trinken sehr viel. Ganz schlecht können sie trotzdem nicht sein. Immerhin haben sie die Bühnen etwa schon mit THE GRIT, DEMENTED ARE GO oder THE COFFIN NAILS geteilt. Warum auch immer. Crazy Love Records veröffentlicht mit "Set A Fire On Your Heart" das rundherum gelungene Debütalbum von A SAILOR'S GRAVE. Bisher konnten sie nur auf einigen Samplern beweisen, was sie drauf haben. Manche würden LEATHERFACE sicherlich als eine der weniger bekannten Bands kategorisieren, wobei jedoch klar ist, dass der Mob unter der Vorherrschaft von Sänger Frankie Stubbs von den Kritikern geliebt wird und so oder so als Punkband aus dem nordischen Sunderland für Furore sorg(t)en. Mein Gott, welche andere britischen Punkband (außer vielleicht die Mitglieder der ersten Punkwelle im Vereinigten Königreich) hat schon so viele amerikanische Bands beeinflusst wie LEATHERFACE?? Seit 1988 haben LEATHERFACE insgesamt acht Alben veröffentlicht, wobei es immer die Reibeisenstimme von Frankie Stubbs ist, die einen Song sofort als LEATHERFACE Song enttarnt. Die Texte der Band toben sich gern mit weithergeholten Vergleichen, Metaphern, Wortspielen und verdrehten Anspielungen aus. How we love this! -

Kettcar - fliegende bauten (live)-Die Indierocker unplugged mit Streichern im Hamburger Kulturzelt Fliegende Bauten. Als die Indierock-Stars Kettcar am 31.8. 2008 in der Hamburger Kulturfabrik Kampnagel ein akustisches Konzert mit Streichquartett gaben, hatten die Jungs um Markus Wiebusch wohl selbst nicht damit gerechnet, was für ein Erfolg die Veranstaltung werden sollte. Nicht nur, dass daraus die DVD "Live auf Kampnagel - 5:43 a.m." entstand, knappe 15 Monate später ging man in derselben Besetzung unplugged auf Tour. Am 10. November 2009 gastierten Kettcar im Hamburger Kulturzelt Fliegende Bauten. Klar, dass auch dort mitgeschnitten wurde, diesmal für eine CD: "Fliegende Bauten" präsentiert Kettcar und die beleitenden Streicher der Neuen Philharmonie Frankfurt in bester Spiellaune und beweist einmal mehr die Wandlungsfähigkeit der Hamburger Band. -

End Of A Year - same-End of a Year started as a way to kill time for Albany musicians already involved in full-time bands. Having spent time playing "heavier" music, the initial End of a Year line-up was interested in trying something more overtly melodic. After releasing a number of releases End of a Year caught the attention of Revelation Records, and in 2006 they released the "Sincerely" album on that label. Since the release of "Sincerely", End of a Year have released a number of 7"EPs and split 7"EPs on various labels worldwide. Their latest release (and first on Deathwish) is a fantastic 7"EP recorded by End of a Year guitarist Andrew Duggan. Picking up where previous releases left off, the hook laden opener "Robert E. Howard" explodes with a discordant crash and bang. A fitting sonic backdrop to vocalist Patrick Kindlon's uniquely honest and poetic diatribe. This theme carries into the other two songs on the release "Gray Morrow" and "Walter Miller Jr". Collectively all three songs carry an organic ebb and flow that brings to mind the ghost of Rites Of Spring as well as other influential Revolution Summer-era DC bands. This release features original artwork from acclaimed artist Erol Otus, illustrator of the early Dungeons & Dragons franchise. -

As much as I discredit the root idea that such a sound even exists or is quantifiable to such a finite point, I will at least concede that there are certain key influences for many a young (at heart) local miscreant. I digress. The fact that twenty-one years after NR played a legion hall in Gainesville, we are putting out a record that not only stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the best NR album, but perhaps surpasses, well, this blows me away. I have a hard time finding words that express how much Pezzati's voice shakes me to the core. So I'll abandon words entirely and quote the man himself "Whoa Hey Ho". Yes. This record means that much. Crafting the music and bringing the workhorse/powerhouse ethic are Jeff Dean, Mike Soucy, and Pete Mittler, who have truly risen to the occasion. They have been in countless Chicago bands, and continue to split their time with several noteworthy, exceptional bands, including The Methadones and Four Star Alarm. Energy. Focus. Intensity. As if it could get any better, the album was recorded by J. Robbins, who also makes appearances on various songs. He really brought out the best in the band and songs, amplifying and directing, especially in the vocal harmonies and melodies. Pezzati turned in vocals on the last Paint It Black album, and Dan Yemin returns the favor here. Bob Nanna also lends his inimitable pipes to the mix." - -Var -

Ihre Herkunft klingt zunächst wenig gewalttätig: Sounds Like Violence stammen aus dem kleinen Städtchen Båstad an der Südwestküste Schwedens. Dennoch gelingt es dem Quartett um den Sänger und Gitaristen Andreas Söderlund, seine Liebe, Wut und Ekstase mit aller Kraft in Musik zu übersetzen. Und das bereits seit 2002. Fünf Jahre später erschien das Debütalbum "With Blood On My Hands", 2009 verraten sie auf "The Devil In Nobel Street", wo Luzifer zu finden ist. In der Zwischenzeit spielte man zusammen mit Bands wie Gallows, Fightstar, Wombats und AFI. "The Devil In Nobel Street" kombiniert melodischen, untergründigen Rock mit unwiderstehlichen Killer-Refrains und düsteren, Unheil verkündenden Texten.
