Emerging from the wreckage of the anarcho punk scene spawned by the likes of Crass and Conflict, it took its influences from the studs 'n' leather punk bands of the early Eighties such as Discharge and GBH, and also the nascent American hardcore movement and the emerging metal/punk crossover scene. Ian Dury & The Blockheads - sex & drugs & rock & roll-Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll features the music of the late Ian Dury who was a proto-new wave, punk rocker of the 1970s. Having survived polio as a child, Ian encountered difficulties by his limited use of his left leg and arm, but persevered to become a popular recording artist for Stiff Records. He is also credited for creating the popular tagline: Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, but sadly passed away in 2000 from liver cancer at the age of 57. The album featured here is timed to coincide with the release of director Mat Whitecross' motion picture biopic of Ian Dury's life: Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll. The part of Ian is played by Lord Of The Rings actor Andy Serkis who said Ian was, "...a real poet." The film opens in the U.K. on January 8th, 2010 and will hopefully make its way to the U.S. soon afterwards. Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll contains twenty (20) selections from Ian Dury and the Blockheads which span the years from 1977 to 1981. All the essentials are offered here and the neat part is that we get a rare live version of Spasticus Autisticus and the extended twelve inch versions of the Disco Not Disco styled classics: Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick from 1978 and Reasons To Be Cheerful (Part 3) from 1979. While I haven't had a chance yet to see the movie, listening to this disc is certainly whetting my appetite as the music, especially from that first drum roll of the title track, conveys the sense of quirky song writing and plain good fun we remember from the era. -

Eingängige Hooklines gepaart mit stampfenden Rhythmen, Bläsern und Offbeat-Feeling waren von Beginn an das Markenzeichen der Band. Iron Cross - live for now-Iron Cross were America's first street punk band. 1981 saw the genesis of the DC hardcore scene with bands like Bad Brains and Minor Threat rising from the obscurity to become national punk legends. During this time, dozens of bands like Government Issue, Black Market Babies and Iron Cross Thrived In The DC punk scene. Iron Cross was different however drawing influences from British Oi as well as American punk. Bands like Agnostic Front, Anti-Heros, and the Dropkick Murphys have all covered Iron Cross's material; their song "Crucified" is one of Agnostic Front's most successful live songs to date. Live for now contains all of the band's original singles and 12"s as well as 5 never released tracks. -

Anticops - out in the streets -Es hat ein paar Jahre gedauert, bis sich Berlins Dampfwalze aka ANTICOPS mit einer neuen Scheibe zurückmelden. Auf Out In The Streets beweisen die Berliner einmal mehr das sie niemandem etwas beweisen müssen: Unglaublich fette Produktion und ein Sound der dich wie ein fliegender Pflasterstein trifft! Die Vocals von Shouter Micha und Danny sind sowieso schon eine Klasse für sich, perfektionieren aber mit den fetten Riffs und den derben Drumbeats das gesamt Bild der Band und der neuen Platte. Doch damit nicht genug! Die ANTICOPS haben sich noch ein paar Freunde ins Studio eingeladen, die das Album zu etwas ganz besonderem machen. Atze (Troopers), Kid D (Rykers), David (Charley's War), Brian (Death Before Dishonor), Candace (Walls Of Jericho) verleihen dem ganzen noch den nötigen Schliff! Auf Out In The Streets gibt es neben den neuen Songs auch einige Coverversionen die deutlich zeigen wo die Jungs ihre Wurzeln haben (z.B. Misfits, Slumlords und TROOPERS!!) wer kennt ihn nicht den Troopers Überhit Gewalt? Diesen Gassenhauer servieren ANTICOPS mit Atze erstmals in Englisch (to fight). Machen wir es kurz und schmerzlos: Wer die eben genannten Bands mag und wer auf ehrlichen Hardcore steht, MUSS hier zugreifen und wer die älteren ANTICOPS Sachen feiert kommt an der neuen Scheibe sowieso nicht vorbei! -

Leatherface - the stormy petrel-LEATHERFACE kehren mit ihrem langerwarteten Album "The Stormy Petrel" endlich ins Rampenlicht zurück. Und was mindestens genau so wichtig ist: "The Stormy Petrel" erscheint auf dem bandeigenen Label Big Ugly Fish Recordings. Manche würden LEATHERFACE sicherlich als eine der weniger bekannten Bands kategorisieren, wobei jedoch klar ist, dass der Mob unter der Vorherrschaft von Sänger Frankie Stubbs von den Kritikern geliebt wird und so oder so als Punkband aus dem nordischen Sunderland für Furore sorg(t)en. Mein Gott, welche andere britischen Punkband (außer vielleicht die Mitglieder der ersten Punkwelle im Vereinigten Königreich) hat schon so viele amerikanische Bands beeinflusst wie LEATHERFACE?? Seit 1988 haben LEATHERFACE insgesamt acht Alben veröffentlicht, wobei es immer die Reibeisenstimme von Frankie Stubbs ist, die einen Song sofort als LEATHERFACE Song enttarnt. Die Texte der Band toben sich gern mit weithergeholten Vergleichen, Metaphern, Wortspielen und verdrehten Anspielungen aus. How we love this!
